The Institute for Underground Science At SURF
The Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) houses world-leading, multidisciplinary research and incorporates that research into science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. To deepen our impact, we have launched the Institute for Underground Science at SURF to unite today’s research and tomorrow’s discoveries. The Institute will house working spaces for collaboration, enhance teaching and learning areas, and increase opportunities for generations of scientists to come together through discovery and exploration of our universe.
Although there is no physical building at this time, programming is in place and we are working with world-renowned scientists, global research institutions, and a team of SURF professionals to understand how we can best provide unique and impactful resources as we improve, develop, build and implement a fully realized Institute for Underground Science, located at SURF.
